Asphalt is the most common driveway paving material since it is durable and versatile. But, there are different types of asphalt, and each has the most suitable application.
So, of the different types, which is best for your driveway? Let’s find out.
- Porous asphalt
This is a more porous asphalt. And as the name suggests, it has pores that allow water to seep in. An underlying rock bed is often put in place for the water to filter into and penetrate the soil hence replenishing the water tables.
For this reason, porous asphalt is used in parking lot constructions since runoff is a significant concern in parking lots.
Most homeowners have taken note of this asphalt and are installing it to reduce water runoffs in their properties.
- Hot Mix Asphalt
This is the most used asphalt for driveways. It is a heated asphalt mix made of aggregates and asphalt as the binder. It has a rich black color that enhances a property’s curb appeal, and it is also easy to repair.
- Thin Overlay asphalt
Thin overlay offers better ride quality and less pavement distress. It is an asphalt mix made of warm-mix asphalt and recycled materials.
- Recycled asphalt
Another good quality of asphalt material is that it is 100% recyclable. And to top it all, recycled asphalt is just as durable and long-lasting as virgin asphalt.
The only issue is that it is lighter in color than virgin hot mix asphalt. So, if you’re up for giving your driveway a unique non-conventional look, recycled asphalt may be what you need.
